About Us

THe American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (now nown as ASHRAE) was formed by the merger of two societies, American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers (ASHVE), known after 1954 as American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHAE) and the American Society of Refrigerating Engineers (ASRE). The two merged in 1959 and formed the organization we know as ASHRAE.

ASHRAE Core Values: Advancement

We are committed to the advancement of the arts and sciences of HVAC&R for the benefit of society, whether through technology transfer or education and training. Leadership - We are committed to providing leadership within our industry, and developing leadership qualities in our members. Integrity - We are committed to honesty in the practice of our profession as embodied in the ASHRAE Code of Ethics. Service - We are committed to service to our members and to the public. Excellence - We are committed to the achievement of technical quality and excellence in our programs, publications, courses and other activities.

ASHRAE Membership: Advantages

Membership in ASHRAE is open to any person associated with heating, ventilation, air conditioning or refrigeration through such disciplines as energy conservation and indoor air quality, for example. Membership in ASHRAE allows access to information about state-of-the-art HVAC&R technology and provides many opportunities to participate in the development of that technology. Participation is available locally, through voluntary chapters, and through membership on Society committees, such as standards projects committees, which are responsible for the development of standards, and technical committees which advise the Society on research needs, emerging technologies, and technical matters. ASHRAE Chapters provide an opportunity for members to become involved in the Society at the local level. Members, who otherwise might not be able to participate, can further their knowledge of the industry, network with others in the same industry, mentor younger members and contribute to their community at large through Chapter programs.
