Trevor Harle

Trevor Harle was born December 22, 1937, in Goodwater Saskatchewan, a small fanning community, where his father was the school principal. At the age of 1 1/2 years his fathers vocation took them to Fairlight, south of Moosomin and at age 3 1/2 the Harle family moved to Regina where they became active members of the community for the rest of their lives. Trevor was also fortunate to have 2 younger sisters who still live in Saskatchewan.

At the tender age of 14 tragedy stuck the Harle family when Trevor lost his lower leg when he was pinned between a car and a power pole after an accident and perhaps this event helped shape Trevor's drive to succeed at everything he attempted.

Trevor graduated from Central Collegiate in 1956 and from the University of Saskatchewan in 1961 with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He did not stop his education there as he received his diploma in Business Administration in 1964.

Trevor fathered one daughter (Jennifer - B.C.) and two sons (Steven - SK, and Michael - Calgary).

Trevor realized the importance of ASHRAE at the beginning of his working career and joined ASHRAE in 1966 and was has worked timelessly on behalf of ASHRAE and the Regina Chapter ever since.

His dedication to ASHRAE led Trevor to the following Chapter Offices:

Trevor has served on the following Chapter Committees:

Beyond the local Chapter level Trevor's activities on behalf of ASHRAE included:

In 1988 Trevor headed up the committee writing the Chapters History for which the Chapter was awarded the Gold Medal Award, Chapter History (1988)

He was Chairperson for Memberships for 2 years, Historian for 4 years and Research Promotion 3 years including the just concluding 96/97 ASHRAE year where he raised over $10,000.00, a Chapter record.

Trevor was also Regional Historian for 2 years and curled 10 times on the Regina Chapter team in the ASHRAE John Ross competition and was on the winning team 3 times.

Trevor did not limited his activities to ASHRAE as he had been a very active member in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan since 1961 and worked on numerous committees and directorships and is still active today.

He was also Fund Drive Organizer for the Salvation Army for 4 years, Fund Drive Organizer for the Heart & Stoke Foundation for 4 years, Boy Scout leader for more than 20 years and director of the Regina Fish & Game League of which he was a life member.

Trevor was been the mechanical designer of many projects of which the following are of special significance:

His activities outside of his working life were many and varied in scope. They included bird and game hunting, fishing, curling, travel, gardening, computers, cross country skiing, dancing and genealogy (having traced the Harle family back to the early 1600's) and stamp collector (at an early age).

Perhaps his most ambitious personnal project was the building of his home on Pasqua Lake where he and his wife, Betty, resided full time. While working on this ambitious project Trevor had a serious accident breaking the knee on his "bad" leg after falling from a ladder. This did not stop him though, his drive and stubbornest moving him beyond this setback and this project is now complete and he and Betty will now be able to enjoy their home and garden complete with many rock walls again done by shear drive and help from family and friends.

While on his numerous fishing trips he stubbornly stuck to a policy of not eating anything until he catches his first fish.

Trevor and Betty have been blessed with a number of grandchildren whom they dote on with the same degree of love and dedication that they have exhibited through the years.

Trevor was nominated by the Regina Chapter for the ASHRAE Region XI Regional Award of Merit for 1995/96 and 1996/97, recognizing that Trevor is one who has worked tirelessly for the benefit of all throughout his life.

Unfortunately, Trevor passed away November 20, 2020.
